Valeria Radchenko/ler-ka is a multi-disciplinary artist and music producer, currently based in London. They explore the fusing of genres and mediums to dream new worlds, weaving personal narratives with speculative fiction, e.g. in their cross-genre music, DJ sets, or immersive AV performances.
Their work is, at its core, concerned with connection in the information age, and vibration as sound, as affect, and embodied states. Working across video, performance, music, movement and creative coding, they explore the micro/macro relationship between personal narratives and wider patterns and cycles of life.
Their practice is informed by and converges: sci-fi, speculative fiction, autobiography, technology, care, ritual, play, networks of relation, queerness, sensory stimulation, and communication.
Valeria explores how technology can be used in magical/transformative practices, e.g. inducing trance states with digital sound. They are particularly interested in the emotional potential of electronic music, i.e. how it can make us experience feelings never felt before, or ones we didn’t know were within us.
They seek to create immersive experiences that takes the audience on a journey through stimulating the senses, to offer opportunities for reflection, connection and new perspectives.
Radchenko has performed and DJed at venues across London, including The Glove That Fits, Corsica Studios, Avalon Cafe, Ugly Duck, and The Baths. Aside from self-releasing their own music, they compose and produce soundtracks for films and performances, most notably feature-length film, (Tending) (to) (Ta), by April Lin.
They have been facilitating vocal workshops exploring the effects of using the voice in a group since 2018, most recently hosted at Spectra Fest 2022. They have also worked as a sessional lecturer, teaching coding in Max for sound and performance at the University of Reading, and have given artist talks for the University of Rhode Island and Music Hackspace.
